The 17th edition of the prestigious , themed ‘Back to Base’, recently lit up Lagos, marking the ceremony’s vibrant return to Nigeria after a two-year stint abroad.

Charismatic actress and media star, Nancy Isime, alongside veteran broadcaster IK Osakioduwa, co-hosted the night, infusing the event with humour, energy, and star power.

For years, The Headies has been a cornerstone in recognising and celebrating Nigeria’s ever-evolving music scene, honouring standout talents across a range of categories.

Among its most coveted honours is the ‘Next Rated Award’, reserved for emerging artists tipped to shape the future of music. Many past winners have gone on to dominate not just Afrobeats but global music conversations.

Nollywood actress and estranged wife of Nigerian music legend Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, , has officially confirmed their divorce during the 17th held on Sunday night.

Naija News reports that the actress, who had remained quiet about the issue for several months, broke her silence while co-presenting the award for Best Afrobeat Singer of the Year.

She shared the stage with Farooq Oreagba, widely celebrated as the “King of Steeze” following his iconic appearance at the 2024 Ojude Oba festival.

While introducing herself, Annie paused when saying her name, then quickly corrected it, clearly showing her new status.

Annie Idi… Oh! Sorry, Annie Macaulay. Hey, single ladies!” she declared, drawing enthusiastic cheers and applause from the crowd.

This public confirmation comes after hints earlier in the year, when Annie resurfaced on social media in March — around two months after 2Baba announced their separation — signing off with her full name, Annie Uwana Macaulay, notably omitting the Idibia surname.

The former couple, who share two children, officially ended their marriage in January 2025, following 2Baba’s announcement of their split.

Since the separation, has moved on and proposed to Edo State lawmaker, . He has also introduced her to his family and community in Benue State, sparking widespread speculation about an upcoming wedding.

Nigerian media Personality, Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, popularly known as Do2dtun, has berated reality star,, over his tribal remarks at the 17th Headies Awards ceremony.

Naija News learnt that Whitemoney, in his acceptance speech while receiving the Afrobeats Single Of the Year award on behalf of singer Flavour at the ceremony held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos on Sunday, said he was on the stage on behalf of the Igbos.

However, the statement displeased some viewers, who accused him of tribalism for narrowing Flavour’s fan base to the Igbo folks.

Reacting via his 𝕏 handle, Do2dtun slammed Whitemoney for bringing tribal sentiment into the award ceremony, stressing that the award won by Flavour was for all Afrobeats fans.

He wrote, “’On behalf of the Igbos.’ I am sorry, that was so unnecessary. It didn’t need that type of narrative. It’s an award won by an African; for Afrobeat and a Nigerian. #headies2025”

Meanwhile,  recently weighed in on the feud between , and his senior colleague, Akorede Babatunde Okunola, professionally known as Saheed Osupa.

Naija News reports that from streaming platforms over copyright infringement.

Portable had used a line from Osupa’s song, resulting in its removal from Spotify and Apple Music after complaints by the Fuji singer and his distributors.

Portable, while expressing anger over Osupa’s action, in a viral video online, blasted the senior colleague for reporting his song.

The ‘Zazu Zeh’ crooner said Osupa is big for nothing and berated him for not supporting his career, like Pasuma.

Reacting to the outburst, Do2dtun, in a post via 𝕏, said that Saheed Osupa would beat Portable from bus stop to bus stop over the insult.

Nigeria To Host 2024 Headies Awards

The 17th edition of the Headies Awards, held on Sunday in Lagos, Nigeria, illuminated the best of the Nigerian and African music industry, celebrating exceptional talent and achievements in the past year.

Among the early winners, Zerry DL bagged the coveted Rookie of the Year award, making a notable impact on the music scene.

Meanwhile, Digital Artist of the Year went to superstar Davido, further cementing his dominance in the industry.

Afrobeats sensation Rema took home Afrobeats Album of the Year for his project HEIS, while critically acclaimed artist Tems claimed the Best Recording of the Year award for her song Burning.

The Headies Awards ceremony also honoured distinguished figures with Special Recognition Awards. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, renowned media executive, Alex Okosi, and football administrator Amaju Pinnick were recognised for their contributions to the entertainment and sports sectors.

In a highly anticipated moment, Odumodublvck was crowned the Next Rated Artist, edging out fellow nominees Shallipopi, Qing Madi, and Ayo Maff.
